Support our Give!Guide Campaign!
Oregon is second in the nation in substance use and misuse among adults and adolescents.
Oregon is dead last in the nation in availability of treatment and services for people facing addiction.
We’ve all grown tired of the phrase “now more than ever.” We’ve heard it so many times over the last several years, especially in regard to the need for community support — be it emotional, financial, or otherwise. Tired as it may be, it’s true. Oregon remains in the throes of the worst addiction and overdose crisis in the country — our state is second in the nation in substance use rates among adults and adolescents and dead last in the nation in availability of treatment and services. Concurrent to that ongoing crisis is a renewed crisis in funding. Between July, 2024 and June, 2025 the Alano Club lost 15% of its operational income due to reductions in funding at the municipal, state and federal levels. In the coming year, we will lose an additional 15% of our remaining funding.
A community is only as strong as its most vulnerable members, and we’ve been reminded time and time again that our community at the Alano Club is vibrant, compassionate, and incredibly strong. To trot out that same phrase, but perhaps with renewed meaning: now more than ever before, we need each other. We need your support. We’re in this together, each and all of us, one day at a time.
Supporting our Give!Guide campaign doesn’t just provide life-saving resources to those in need, it also offers you the opportunity to win some incredible donor incentives, both through the Give!Guide’s Big Give Day giveaways, and through our own donor incentives, offered through our community partners! Deadlifts in December
Deadlifts in December is a community fundraiser to help keep The Recovery Gym's movement-based recovery services FREE for those in early recovery!
Our TRG athletes and allies work hard every time they hit the gym floor, and Deadlifts in December is a chance to not only showcase their strength and resiliency, but to help ensure TRG remains free and accessible for the next person in recovery that finds us.
Rally the support of your friends & fam and raise vital funds to make a lifesaving impact on people who seek our recovery support now—and in the future.
⭐ This year our goal is to raise $20,000 ⭐
All proceeds from this campaign will go to supporting and sustaining TRG programming so we can continue to offer numerous points of connection and support for our neighbors in need, helping TRG continue to offer cost-free recovery programming and trauma-informed coaching for adults and adolescents across the Portland Metro Area.
It is a critical moment where nonprofits across the state are facing significant funding cuts at the municipal and local levels--and TRG is no exception. Oregon remains last in the nation when it comes to access to addiction and mental health services and we will not ignore the still growing need for cost-free recovery resources like ours.
Our TRG community relies on the connection and confidence each class offers, and your support of Deadlifts in December is an invaluable part of how we will remain resilient AND accessible for community members on their path to health and lasting healing.
Thank you for believing in TRG and the importance of creating safe, inclusive spaces where we can recover together.

Move Through Darkness
As a person in recovery from substance addiction (since 2004, one day at a time) I know how "dark" life can get sometimes. I have experienced long nights awake using chemicals, trying to escape reality and numb the pain — feeling hopeless and acting reckless. It is quite obvious that the substance addiction issue is rampant in the Portland, Oregon area and beyond, and this is a mission to help those struggling. We must find ways to see the light, and hope for better days ahead. I am compelled and motivated to continue to help people find a way out of the darkness, in partnership with the Alano Club of Portland. We could use your help.
This mission is about using my passion for long distance "ultra" running as a vehicle dedicated to raising funds and awareness for programs offered at the Alano Club of Portland. The fundraising campaign will allow us to continue our offerings into 2025 for programs such as: The Recovery Gym, Run TRG, The Recovery Toolkit Series, and more. These programs have proven to be healthy outlets for those in or seeking recovery....a "light" out of the darkness, if you will. The first three years were a HUGE success and we are going for it again, with a few slight changes.
On Saturday evening December 13, 2025 at sunset I will start my GPS watch from the Alano Club, and begin running around Portland, Oregon, and I won't stop until sunrise!
I encourage you to pledge $1 per mile. For example: if I stop at sunrise and my GPS says 62 miles, you donate $62 to our cause. You are welcome to give more (or less), and your donations will literally be helping change and save lives. Thank you kindly in advance! To add your name to the pledge list, and/or donate visit this page for more information.
We will also have “teams” where runners can participate “relay-style” (for example: Runner 1 starts at Alano Club and runs to Germantown Rd., and tags the next team member to do the next section, and so on and so forth).
Thank you for your support. Your gift today changes lives. It saves lives.
