Free Legal Sercices and Expungement Clinic
A criminal record creates barriers to housing and employment, perpetuating a cycle of poverty for people in recovery involved with the criminal justice system. Unfortunately, clearing one’s record can be expensive, costing in excess of $3,000. That’s why we are thrilled to partner with Clear Clinic to offer this monthly free legal services and expungement clinic, where all services are offered free of charge.

Plates for the People
Plates for the People is a series of free, monthly cooking classes for people in or seeking recovery.
Plates for the People is a series of free, monthly cooking classes for people in or seeking recovery, led by Chef Patrick McKee (Estes).
Plates for the people began in 2019, when the Alano Club of Portland and the Portland chapter of Ben’s Friends partnered with Cookshop and some of the country’s best chefs—including Gregory Gourdet, Tommy Habetz, Patrick McKee, Marcus Oliver, Gabriel Rucker and more—to bring the recovery community free, accessible classes where students learn about budgeting, meal planning, and how to cooking delicious, healthy dinners they can repurpose for multiple meals to feed themselves and others. Each class begins with the visiting chef sharing about their own journey with cooking and recovery, and concludes with the chef and students sharing a meal, and their stories, with each other.

Founders's Day BBQ and Movie Night
Join us this Founders’ Day for fellowship and dinner in the Alano Club parking lot, followed by a screening of Bill W: Conscious Contact (dir. Hanlon, 2025) in the Loft.
Bill W: Conscious Contact (dir. Hanlon, 2025) is a film biography documenting the “spiritual excavation” of Bill Wilson, the founding father of AA and 12-Step programs. Through rare archival footage and close personal interviews, the film ”[explores] how one man’s relentless search for conscious contact transformed millions of lives, and continues to inspire seekers around the world.” For more information about the film and its creators, visit their website.
