The Alano Club of Portland is excited to offer FREE weekly mindfulness meditation classes using the iRest (Integrative Restoration) Yoga Nidra method of meditation.

iRest, developed by Richard Miller PhD, is a meditative practice for deep relaxation and healing. A mindfulness technique that teaches people to be aware of and to welcome body sensations, thoughts and feelings. For people in recovery iRest can play a vital role in the recovery process.

Early research has shown that iRest Meditation offers many benefits for people in recovery from substance use disorders. In a recent clinical study, iRest participants had lower rates of relapse than those who didn’t meditate, and reported lower incidences of negative moods and thought patterns. Other benefits of iRest for people in addiction recovery are decreased stress, increased feelings of calmness, increased acceptance and less reactivity. Tony Roberts, an iRest Level 1 teacher and a 25 year member of AA will lead weekly sessions at the Alano Club.

Join us in the Clock Room every Saturday at 2:00pm to learn and experience the benefits a meditation practice can bring to your recovery process. Class is FREE but limited to 20 people, on a first-come, first-served basis.
