Introduction to mindfulness-based relapse prevention

This workshop introduces mindfulness practices proven to sustain a successful recovery from addictive behaviors. Throughout the day we’ll learn the science behind the practices as well as experience their impact first hand. We’ll also explore and increase our awareness of triggers, habitual patterns and “automatic” reactions that increase relapse risk. Using tools directly drawn from the evidence based 8-week program, Mindfulness Based Relapse Prevention, we’ll experience the ability to pause, observe present experience, and bring awareness to the range of choices in each moment.
ABOUT DENISE GOUR:
Since 2004, Denise Gour LCSW has established several highly successful addiction recovery programs for Volunteers of America Oregon. She currently supervises the 8-week Mindfulness Based Relapse Prevention course at VOA’s Women’s Residential Center. Denise is a licensed therapist, consultant and international mindfulness educator, trained by the original researchers who developed 8-week mindfulness courses for depression, stress reduction, and self-compassion. Her mindfulness courses are offered throughout the year in the Portland community.
